Fire-Brigade ST last minute release notes v1.11
===============================================
The ST version of Fire Brigade has been tested fairly
thoroughly and is free of bugs as far as we can tell. Please let
us know if you have any problems with it. We also like reading
positive comments, of course! Here is the (short!) list of those
issues which came to light after the version supplement was
printed.
Selecting Objectives
====================
Please note that when selecting objectives on the Tac Map,
the name of the town/city or enemy HQ will be displayed at the
right of the menu bar when the cursor is over the objective.
Screen Colours
==============
We had a bit of trouble (minor arguments!) deciding what
colours should represent different ground conditions that occur
during the game. In the end we hastily added a colour selection
dialog option to the GAME menu so that you can choose your own
colours. This works pretty much like the Control Panel colour
selector so it shouldn't present any problems.
The three colours (0, 1, 2) at the top left of the dialog
correspond to the Background, Roads, and Rivers. These are
fairly straightforward. Colour 3, however, is for the map
background as well as any text that appears, including the menu
bar! This is the colour that changes with the various ground
conditions (ie: Good, Mud, Snow/Freeze, Night). These four
"sub-options" can be found in the lower left of the dialog.
Selecting any of these options will change the map background
so that you can immediately see the result. If the dialog
becomes unreadable while changing a colour just press return to
cancel the dialog. If you select "Save" a file called
"COLOURS.DAT" will be created and used to set the colours when
the game is next run. Deleting this file will default to the
standard colours.
My own preference is to set all the "colour 3" colours to 777
(white) and not have the screen change during play. It is,
however, very handy to be reminded of the ground condition,
especially when it is mud!
Communications
==============
Some minor technical difficulties were encountered when we
were testing communications with non ST computers. At all baud
rates up to and including 2400 everything works OK. If you want
to play a networked game with a Mac, IBM, or Amiga at a higher
speed, you will have to choose 7200 baud in the Communications
dialog (on both machines!). 19200 baud has been provided to
allow the highest possible speed when connecting two ST's.
